To "allow" is to let someone do something or to let something happen.
“allow”是讓某人做某事或讓某事發生 。
To "permit" is very similar. You are giving permission to someone to complete an action.

"Allow" is more casual, but they really both mean the same thing.

"Permit" can also be used as a noun to describe a physical document that gives you permission to do a certain thing. For example, a 'parking permit' gives you permission to park in a certain area.
